Crowing was probably frowned upon when showing up in Court. This knight is having his day and he is going to let everyone know it is his time of good fortune. In fact they will be talking about him for a long time. His ceremonial 'best' dress is more than just show; it takes a lot of intention to bring this together.
If you are going to do something, do your best.
Everybody needs to be a bit flamboyant from time to time.

ReplyDeleteThe knight's efforts put my morning wardrobe woes into perspective...Been reading today how the emotional character of party sentiment/loyalty in the middle ages was heightened by the powerfully suggestive effect of ceremonial dress, liveries, colours etc. Your card shows it goes back further than that.
ReplyDeleteever the practical I wonder how much that outfit weighted. It isn't all on the outside, the culture predicated the inside be just as fine as the outside. I read in an ad for virginia Slims 150 years ago the average woman's dress outfit weighted in at 40 pounds. More evidence of my refined well of knowledge...
